Development Program

Community development is a holistic approach grounded in principles of empowerment, human rights, inclusion, social justice, self-determination, and collective action. It addresses physical, economical, human, social, and environmental aspects within the community. Community development considers community members be experts in their lives and communities and values community knowledge and wisdom. Community members lead community development programs at every stage – from deciding on issues to selecting and implementing actions, and evaluation. VEA is an agent for community development addresses all community need areas and fills the gap in collaboration with concerned stakeholders and partners, including the government.

It is a child support project that aims for the children to be successful in all their life. To achieve the goal, the sponsorship project has the components like Education Support: (school uniform, exercise books, reference books, tutor service, college and university fees, and others), Health Support (medical service provision, food delivery service, sanitary materials distribution, causal cloth & shelter renovation service), Psycho-social support: (individual & group counseling, trauma healing service, get together, different games in the children Centers and others).

The project is implementing in different projects in different part of Ethiopia.

Its purpose is to empower youths with business skill training and start-up money support. The business type chosen by them is cow/sheep farming, woodwork, and small business like retailing goods, poultry farming, and design works. Their life is change, and they were looking for support before; now, they can earn an income and support their families. The Diplomatic Spouses Group in Ethiopia, Matrix project, funded this project.

These women have nothing to earn before. They had the challenge to feed their families, sending their kids to school, to cover house rent, utilities, and other daily expenses. But, after they joined the project, they provided business skill training, techniques on how to be successful, and developing a saving culture for a better future, and then they received start-up money based on their chosen business type. They have been working smart and earning an income, and also they can afford all their families need.

VEA has built a school for the Tebase community in Debre-Berhan city. The community had no Kindergarten school, and they had a challenge for preschoolers to start school. VEA has built classrooms for KG students, and the community has benefited by getting schools nearby. The project was supported by an Alberta Government fund from Canada. The school had been under the supervision of VEA, but after three years of administration, VEA gave to the government.

Some communities and schools need clean toilets in Debre Berhan and Addis Ababa City. So, VEA has been built for both school communities and rural communities. Then both communities can use clean toilets and reduce the infections within the community.
