Humanitarian Response

Vision for Ethiopia Association has been responding to an emergency happening in different part of Ethiopia. It includes IDPs due to the conflict, war, and invasions; people are facing HUNGER due to drought, war, and flood, and also Global Pandemic like COVID-19. The emergency and relief projects have been implemented by providing NFI/FI and Cash distribution.

  • In 2019, VEA has done emergency and relief responses for the people, who were displaced due to the political conflict in the Guji Oromia area and Amaro in SNNPR. There were more than 1000 households resettled who were disadvantaged community. Canada Winnipeg Community funded the budget with 1.4 million Eth birr. In the project, the Food and NFI items were distributed.
  • In 2020/21, some people were displaced and in need in Tigray & Benshangul. The people had nothing for survival due to the conflict and locking marketing system and were unable to work their regular businesses. VEA has provided Cash distribution for 750 households in Tigray and 600 households in Benshangul. Its budget is funded by EECF Canada, with 1.4 million Eth-Birr. 
  • After Northern Ethiopia War, VEA has taken an action to respond to six schools restarting in North Wollo and North Shewa, 1 school in Afar Region, and also Health Centre support in North Wollo with medical equipment. With the fund from EECF Canada, support has been provided for the rehabilitation of Elementary schools called Sirinka, Aygebir, Mersa, Urges, and Beruh Tesfa Elementary School in North Shewa, Shewarobit. Because of the war, the schools were damaged, students’ chairs were destroyed, the pre-school materials were crushed, and the militants were using the classrooms as a toilet as well. Vision for Ethiopia has taken an action to support the materials such as Computers, chairs, desks, printers, copying machines, and mattresses for pre-schoolers, Gowns & motivational gifts for teachers, and library books provided. One Health Centre has provided Medical equipment and a power generator as well. EECF Canada 4.7 Million Eth-Birr funds the budget. It was implemented from January 2022 to August 2022.
  • Covid-19 affected the whole world, and there were lockdowns for several days globally and locally. The Ethiopian communities were in the challenge of getting food items for survival, and there was a National movement for supporting each other. Therefore, VEA has done the following interventions on it.
  • Ethiopia is one of the countries affected by the pandemic. After this pandemic inaugurated, there were many people sick, and hungry, and also some people who were daily labourers became jobless. To mitigate this pandemic situation, individuals, companies, churches, and other institutions have been providing different support such as food items, sanitation materials, and medical equipment in kind and financially. However, an Evangelical Churches Fellowship in Canada (EECFC) has motivated to support the people in Ethiopia to mitigate the current pandemic and provided 5,192,937.60 through Vision for Ethiopia Association. Then the food item has purchased and delivered to National Emergency & Relief Support Commission Office by May 2020.
  • To mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic, VEA did not stop working on it. VEA supported NFI, which is called sanitary materials for the needy community. The project is funded by World Vision Ethiopia. Vision for Ethiopia Association has implanted the project with a budget of 1,230,000 (one million two hundred thirty thousand) Eth Birr. VEA collaborated with Voice Alliance member organizations and distributed the NFIs for each organization based on their beneficiaries’ numbers. It was aimed to protect the expansion of the pandemic by washing hands, cleaning self, and also through awareness created by using well-known Media.
